There are moments when we all get to say "aha!"

The Present

"Never confuse yourself by visions of an entire lifetime at once... remember that it is not the weight of the future or the past that is pressing upon you, but ever that of the present alone." — Marcus Aurelius

How many times have you come across such advice?  About the importance of the present?  You've probably heard it from a diversity of sources, expressed in different ways, by reputed figures of all decades...  Well, it's been passed on for a reason.  aha?

Aesthete

Funny how I just learned the word "aesthete" (def.) today. Even more interesting was reading Guy Kawasaki's brief interview with author/ long-time Toyota adviser Matthew E. May on the topic of elegance, that May describes as follows:

Something is elegant if it is two things at once: unusually simple and surprisingly powerful. One without the other leaves you short of elegant. And sometimes the “unusual simplicity” isn’t about what’s there, it’s about what isn’t.

...which just brought my understanding of the word "aesthete" to a whole other level! aha!

100 Most Creative People in Business 2009

aha! Fast Company, one of my favourite magazines, releases their annual list of the 100 Most Creative People in Business. Very pleased to see Hayao Miyazaki, Neil Gaiman, Scott Schuman, Noah Brier and Evan Williams among the honorees. Equally inspiring to read about Shai Agassi, June Arunga, KAWS, and Masamichi Katayama.

Leonard Freed: A Concerned Photographer

I'd never heard of Freed before, that is, until reading Vince Aletti's short piece in The New Yorker.  That Aletti described Freed as an artist with a "deeply humanist bent" caught my attention and led me to look for Mr. Freed's photography work online... aha!

Leonard Freed's Black in White America exhibition now showing at the Bruce Silverstein Gallery in NYC.
